Science Experiment

This morning, we did an experiment with milk, food coloring, and dish soap. The students were mesmerized by what happened. Ask your child to explain what they saw!

This experiment is easy to do at home:
1. Pour milk into a bowl
2. Add 4-5 drops of red, blue and yellow food coloring (as far apart as you can)
3. Squeeze about a teaspoon of dish soap directly into the middle (sunlight brand works best, the other brands don't seem to work as well)
4. Watch what happens, add more soap if it starts to slow down

Colorful Fruit Salad

Thank you to everyone for bringing in fruit for our fruit salad. We talked about healthy eating and how important it is to eat fruit everyday. We also learned the vocabulary for the common fruit. Most kids came back for second and third helpings. What a healthy class!

Practicing the letter 's'

Division 9 has been practicing 'writing' the letter 's'. A favorite is making the letter out of playdough. Not only does it help with letter formation, but it gives their hand muscles a good workout!

The letter 's'

This week, we are learning all about the letter 's'. Ask your child to teach you the sound it makes and the action!

Calepin de sons

Yesterday, you received your childs 'Calepin de Sons'. This book should be kept at home. Please spend 3-5 minutes every couple of nights reviewing the sounds we have learned. When learning each letter, we learn the name of the letter, the sound it makes, and an action. As we learn more and more, practice in a different order each time.

Listening

Since the first day of school, we have been learning what listening 'looks' like. Ask your child to show you!

In French, we sing a little song to remind us to re-focus our attention:
Les yeux en avant
Les jambes croisser
La bouche fermer
shhh, shhh, shhh

we say 'mouth closed'

Apple Bulletin Board

Last week, the students painted apples with sponges. After we cut them out, they put a pipe cleaner through it and pretended it was a worm!

Apple Tasting

On 'red' day, we did apple tasting. The students sampled three different apples: red, green, and yellow and then we graphed which ones were our favorites. We also practiced saying:
J'aime la pomme rouge
J'aime la pomme vert
J'aime la pomme jaune
(I like the red/green/yellow apple)
