As the weather begins to change and spring is almost here, we are talking about the changes we are beginning to see outside. There are many cherry blossom trees around our school and we went outside to study them. The students then painted cherry blossom trees to decorate our bulletin board!

Guest Illustrator
We welcomed Gabrielle Grimmard, a children's illustrator, at our school today. She came during the students library time and talked to them about what she does. After showing them some of her books, she talked about how colors can evoke feelings or thoughts and did some activities with the kids. They were so respectful and enjoyed helping her paint a watercolor painting at the end of her visit.
Voici
In the book bags this week, you will find some flashcards and a 'voici' book. With the flashcards, the students can practice naming the letter, saying the sound it makes, and brainstorming words with that sound. You don't have to do all of that each time, switch it up each time you practice.
The 'voici' book may have some words the students cannot yet read. This is ok. They can identify the word 'voici' on each page and then point to letters they recognize, point to the words as you read them, or look at the picture and complete the sentence however they like. You can also count the words and letters on each page.
Happy reading!

Book Bags/Sac de Livres
Tomorrow, the students will be given new "book" bags to take home. There will be a notice for you in the bag with information and instructions but I wanted to give you a heads up so you know what it is when you see it. The bags will go home every Thursday and need to be returned every Tuesday in order to be refilled. "Books" is in quotation marks because it won't always be books in the bag, but it will be some kind of literacy and/or printing activity. The students are excited to get them and to start doing homework. Might as well take advantage of it while we can!
Also, the video I posted on Monday did not work in the email post, but if you go directly on the blog, it is working on the website.

Pipo the movie star
Attached is a stop motion video one of our students made when she had Pipo over spring break. The students LOVED it and we watched it several times today. They all said Pipo was now a movie star!
(I hope this video uploaded correctly. I will try again if it doesn't work - sound required!)
Pat le Chat
This morning we read the Pat le Chat story called 'J'adore mes souliers blancs' (I love my white shoes). Then the students did some writing and we worked on the sight word 'j'aime' and practiced sounding out words.
Class Photos
It was a great first day back from spring break. The students were happy to be back and to see all their friends again. We had a good discussion about the things we did over the holidays and it sounds like the kids had a great time! Just a reminder that tomorrow is class photos. Division 9 is usually the first one to go in the morning so please be on time :)

Litterless Lunch
Our week of litterless lunches and being mindful of how much garbage we produced was a huge success! We had a little clear box and the garbage that was in it was the only non-recyclable items we produced over the whole 5 days. We also began looking for the recycling symbols on containers to help us determine whether they were garbage or recyclable items. The students were also more aware of how much paper was going into the recycling bin (it's amazing how much one class can go through). It was nice to see them say 'hey, let's not put that in the recycle bin, let's put it in the art bin and use it for something'. Even if it was the smallest piece of paper, they didn't want to waste it!
Cat in the Hat Masks
After seeing the play yesterday, the students wanted to make their own Cat in the Hat masks. So cute!
My Many Colored Days
Today we read 'My Many Colored Days' by Dr. Seuss and then made our own class book in French!
When I am green, I feel calm (calme).
When I am blue, I feel sad (triste).
When I am pink, I feel happy (content).
When I am red, I feel excited (excite).

Cat in the Hat
We had a lot of fun on our field trip today! Thank you to all the parents who were able to drive us. Everything went smoothly and the students were so well behaved. I wasn't able to take pictures during the play but here is what the stage looked like when we walked in.

Letter of the week #2
We only have three letters left to learn so we are going to learn them all before spring break. That way we can do one week of review and then move on to more complex sounds.
The second letter we are learning is Xx. Ask you child to teach you the action and the sound it makes (ks ks ks).
