Library Book Bags

Today the students brought home their library book bags full of fun books. They are not expected to read them at this age. You can ‘read’ the pictures, ask questions about what you think is happening on the page, or make up your own story! The book bags and books should come back to school every Thursday. I’ll remind you using the Remind App every week :)

Science Experiment

This morning, we did an experiment with milk, food coloring, and dish soap. The students were excited to see what happened. Ask your child to explain what they saw!

This experiment is easy to do at home:
1. Pour milk into a bowl
2. Add 4-5 drops of red, blue and yellow food coloring (as far apart as you can)
3. Squeeze about a teaspoon of dish soap directly into the middle (sunlight brand works best, the other brands don't seem to work as well as we found out today)
4. Watch what happens, add more soap if it starts to slow down

Vazzy Nouvelle France

This afternoon we had a performance in the gym with traditional québécois music. It was a little hard for the kindergarten kids to understand when they were talking but they sure enjoyed the music. For the last song, the whole school was up and dancing with them!

Bon Dragon et Je Parle Francais

We have two school-wide incentive programs that we have begun to incorporate into our class.
1.     Je parle francais - Billet Bleu
A ‘billet bleu’ (blue ticket) will be given to students who make an effort to speak French.

2.     Bon Dragon – Billet Vert
A ‘bon dragon’ (good dragon) ticket will be given to students who demonstrate good citizenship.
We collect them and on the first Monday of every month, we have a school assembly and draw one name for 'Je Parle Francais' and one name for 'Bon Dragon' from each division.
Those student are recognized at the assembly for their good behaviour.
We are already filling up our basket and the students are working hard to collect their tickets!

Missing Notice

Someone dropped a notice out of their pochette on their way out the door. If you are missing the registration forms for our after school program, I have it in the class.

Gardening

To take advantage of the beautiful weather, we went outside this morning to harvest our garden plot. The students had fun picking beans (les haricots) and carrots (les carottes). We were surprised to see a few purple and white ones! After picking off the stems and cleaning them, we ate them this afternoon. One student exclaimed “Yummm, I didn’t know I’d love garden carrots so much!” 😀

Jaune et Bleu

The students each got yellow and blue play dough and mixed them together to make green. They thought it was pretty neat and were all very excited to be able to take it home.

Apple Art

The students painted apples with sponges. After we cut them out, they put a pipe cleaner through it and pretended it was a worm! Come visit our bulletin board and take a look.

Listening

Since the first day of school, we have been learning what listening 'looks' like. Ask your child to show you!

In French, we sing a little song to remind us to re-focus our attention:
Les yeux en avant
Les jambes croisser
La bouche fermer
shhh, shhh, shhh

we say 'mouth closed and quiet’

Apple Tasting

On 'red' day, we did apple tasting. The students sampled three different apples: red, green, and yellow and then we graphed which ones were our favorites. We also practiced saying:
J'aime la pomme rouge
J'aime la pomme vert
J'aime la pomme jaune
(I like the red/green/yellow apple)

Bonjour, je m’appelle

The students are learning how to introduce themselves in French. They are practicing how to say ‘Bonjour, je m’appelle’ (hello, my name is). This is the activity we did that is displayed on the bulletin board outside our class!
