Letter of the Week

This week, we are learning all about the letter ‘t’. Ask your child to teach you how to correctly print it. Remind them to start writing from the top!

New Desks

In order to get to know each other and sit beside new people every day, I hadn’t  assigned desks to the students. However, that changed today! Each student now has their own desk! Ask you child where they sit. 

Calepin de son

Today, you received your child's 'Calepin de Sons'. This book should be kept at home. Please spend 3-5 minutes every couple of nights reviewing the sounds we have learned. When learning each letter, we learn the name of the letter, how to properly write it, the sound it makes, and an action. As we learn more and more, practice in a different order each time.

This week, we are learning all about the letter 'a' and 's'. With every letter, we learn the name of the letter, the sound it makes and an action. We even learn a little song (see below). We also learn how to properly write the letter. Ask your child to teach you!

L'action de grâce

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving (action de grâce)! On Friday, we met with our buddy class (div. 1) for the first time and made thanksgiving turkeys. On the feathers, the students wrote things they were thankful for :)

Color Wheel

This week, we painted a color wheel. The students began with three colors: red, blue and yellow. Then chose two to mix together. This is a fun way for kids to experiment with colors and they get so excited when they see what colors they can make! They might need to see the pictures to jog their memories, but most of them can make purple, green and orange by mixing two colors!

Zones of Regulation

The students have been learning to identify their emotions. We categorize our emotions into four 'zones': the blue zone, the green zone, the yellow zone and the red zone (see below for zone descriptions). We do check-ins during the day, and the students are getting so good at identifying how they are feeling. Once we get some practice at identifying our emotions, we will begin to learn strategies on how to manage them. I will share them with you as they learn!




The blue zone is when we are feeling tired, hungry, sad, or sick.



This is the ideal zone to be in. This is when our bodies are calm, comfortable, focused, and ready to learn. 



The yellow zone is when we are feeling hyper, silly, or wiggly. 



The red zone is when we are feeling angry, frustrated, scared or anxious.

Library Book Bags

Today the students brought home their library book bags full of fun books. They are not expected to read them at this age. You can ‘read’ the pictures, ask questions about what you think is happening on the page, or make up your own story! The book bags and books should come back to school every Thursday. I’ll remind you using the Remind App every week :)

Science Experiment

This morning, we did an experiment with milk, food coloring, and dish soap. The students were excited to see what happened. Ask your child to explain what they saw!

This experiment is easy to do at home:
1. Pour milk into a bowl
2. Add 4-5 drops of red, blue and yellow food coloring (as far apart as you can)
3. Squeeze about a teaspoon of dish soap directly into the middle (sunlight brand works best, the other brands don't seem to work as well as we found out today)
4. Watch what happens, add more soap if it starts to slow down

Vazzy Nouvelle France

This afternoon we had a performance in the gym with traditional québécois music. It was a little hard for the kindergarten kids to understand when they were talking but they sure enjoyed the music. For the last song, the whole school was up and dancing with them!
